Third She17 Event Highlights

What a night that was!  A thoroughly enjoyable evening of live acoustic women’s music at our new venue the Grove Cafe, 21 Hatherley Mews. Marion Tunstall a.k.a Maz The Jazz was accompanied by Kim on Feeling Glory (a Mash-up of Feeling Good and Portishead’s Glory Box). Tamara Littleton sang an understated lo-fi rendition of the XX’s Angels, then Tracy Dover accompanied by Angie on Guitar, Kim on BVs and Jo on percussion wowed the 50 strong crowd with Tina Dico’s No Time to Sleep, then accompanied by Kim’s guitar,  sang Daughter’s Run with effortless brilliance. Sam Kurt gave us a confident  crowd pleasing rendition of Duffy’s Mercy.  Natalina Castiglioni purred her way through Pretenders Talk of The Town and then beguiled us with Emelie Sande’s read All About It Pt III.   The first half cover versions were rounded off with Clare Farrow’s hilarious water feature, now known as “Where’s The Loo”  – an ensemble piece from various members of Natural Voices Choir , Walthamstow.

After the break Angela Andrew opened with an accatastic  rendition Donny Hathaway/Roberta Flack’s Trying Times.  Sam Kurt blew everyone away with her beautifully written and played own song Single Journey. Eva Destruktion returned to She17 on form with two  gorgeously delivered folk classics. Jo Winning was joined by Kim and Angie for a vocal duet of Snow Patrol/Martha Wainwright’s Set The Fire To The Third Bar, before all three performed Jo’s own song In You.  SULK closed off the show with their own song Sing Little Sister with Tracy joining them on BVs, and then Pretenders’ Kid with Pam Donaldson adding a wonderous walking bass line to Angie’s fantastic guitar solos and Kim’s solid strumming and voice.  The show ended with a fun group rendition of These Boots Are Made for Walking with almost all performers joining in. A great intimate and friendly venue and a supportive audience being the making of this night!
